It's still working at the moment, but the fan has gone really loud, the disc tray wont always open (gets jammed on nothing as if the sliding mechanism is loose) and as I've already previously stated, the DVD playback has gone all dodgy.
I really am going to have to consider getting a replacement and transferring all the game saves I can to the other.
I hope it does last me throughout Halo 2 and Pro Evo 4...I don't want to fork out on a replacement til atleast after Christmas!

I have a warranty and it runs out in January, so im safe for Halo.
I did give them a call about my faulty DVD drive and they said it was definately a hard drive problem and that for £80 they'd have it sorted.
I laughed.
Fools they are.
"Without seeing the Xbox I can only guess and say you have a hard drive problem"
I thought Xbox customer service were meant to be good?
If so, it might be worth trying it to see what happens
