At the moment I'm trying to develop a paint program in Flash. Surely that can't be a massive project to start off learning for?

I mean... just get something to be made at the cursor location, repeat it as long as the button is held down, sounds simple enough. Adding different colours, sizes and undo etc is the next step, but if I can draw lines on a page then that'd be awesome.

Good sites for actionscript beginners? I bought a book for the hell of it (game design demystified, an actual OFFICIAL Macromedia book.. did they even read it? Christ it's bad) but that's pretty much zero help.

So yeah, I'll google anyway, but anyone (monkey_man?) know of good sites for learning?

You can apply all of these to movieclips and buttons to trigger actions:

on(rollOver)
{ action; }

on(rollOut)
{ action; }

on(press)
{ action; }

on(release)
{ action; }

on(releaseOutside)
{ action; }

Pretty self-explanatory. The last one is for when you release after clicking and moving away from a button, quite important.

Well I find both pictures dubious to actually being sexy, but whatever hun :D Strange girl.

Monkey - you have to move the mouse after clicking to make a mark.. any ideas? I'm not sure of the onmouserelease or on (click) things yet

Part 2 of this is to work out how to take that image, save it into a database and show it at will. The point of this all is to allow people to doodle a picture for their reply to a topic in a forum. I think if it works, it'll be awesome.

Ok, I see now I just have to see all the colour buttons to movie clips instead of buttons... what I can't work out is why? I guess as movie clips it's a continous action instead of affecting the root? Made me blink somewhat.

Anyway, got the mask and the colours done, now just the size. Yikes.

Cool, let me know if you have any queries.

In other news, my work want me to make some Flash games as part of a viral campaign. Instantly annoying, but could be an opportunity to flex some Flash muscles (and do some paid work towards my portfolio!) yay!
