when you fix up your console to the internet dose it slow down your computer or dose it stay the same?

I recommend an "Ebuyer 4 Port ADSL Modem Router". Just input that exact sentance in the "Search" bar and hey presto. It's the £30.01 (ex. VAT) one.

Very good, and very reliable. And easy to set up, too.

OH. Direct answer - like Despair said.

Basically - a router would take the line that currently goes into your computer in it.

Then it would have a number of holes, generally 4. By this it is splitting it 4 ways. Well, not splitting. You can have however many devices connected, and they will all work just as fast as it does now.

Then you would buy ethernet CAT5e cables, and these would go from the 4 holes to your PC / PS2 whatever.
