Been looking at this Tft monitor from Special Reserve,
http://specialreserve.co.uk/TFT_Monitor_17_2999_r.html . Now I am new to buying TFT's and thought it would be the logical upgrade from an old 15" CRT, which I think is going to die sometime soon. Also the fact that these TFT's consume a lot less space is a plus as I will more than likely be taking it to Uni at the end of the Year. Problem is I've been told that TFT's are generally sucky for playing games. Is this true? Can anyone give me any advice in this area, because as I have said this is potentially my first TFT purchace. Cheers in advance.

As long as the cable that runs between your PC and your monitor is high quality you'll be fine.

But most other brands are just re-badged LG/Philips anyways...

Nice guide here

It was originally a forum post on overclockers, so it includes a wide range of opinions rather than just 1 person's take on it.

Look at this picture http://www.beotech.co.uk/images/dvivga.jpg top is the older socket. Bottom one is DVI. Hope this helps!

Any idea what that looks like? I have the standard blue cable currently attached. Next to that a round socket similar in size to a PS/2 socket and then a Yellow coaxial socket.

Yup..your graphics card needs a white DVI socket. Most monitors you can switch between DVI or Analog. Not all of them come with a DVI cable (thankfully my Hitachi one did!) so make sure you buy one if you go for a DVI one. I'd go for a DVI TFT either way just to be more future proof.

DVI? does that require me to have a special graphics card or cable or something as well?

DVI is a MUST these days in my opinion. I had to use an old graphics card on the old analog connector and it was painful. DVI is crisp and clear where as the old "blue" connector is quite blurry if you are used to DVI quality. Like the others have said settle for nothing over 16ms. Try and go for a 12 or even 8ms response time with DVI!

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Wonderful...
... and so easy-to-use even for a technophobe like me. I had my website up in a couple of hours. Thank you.
