I'm in my 2nd year at university taking a degree in Biology, specialising in the evironment, conservation and other green-type aspects. If I get an upper 2:1 or a 1st (which I will, I'm clever like that), I'm planning to take a Masters in Environmental Law, which will hopefully lead to a nice little career where I can actually work for what I believe in.
Ideally I want to work with the European Union to help formulate environmental policy, but that's a long way away.
Anyway, the point of this topic is this. I'm bored of this country. Really. I want to take my Masters in a different country. Unfortunately, I didn't realise this until about a year ago, so I'm not language-enabled. Expect for English, obviously. My university offers free Languages for All courses, so I'm about to begin French, hoping to buff up my GCSE 'skills' and work from there.
Oh yeah. Back to the point. Which is this. Has anyone studied abroad at all? I'm thinking USA or Australia. Preferably Australia. Two unviersities I've had a look at (on the web) and like the look of are the University of Sydney and ANU Canberra. Top two universities in Australia, apparently, so I'd have to get a good degree to get into the course.
I was just wondering if anyone had any tales of study abroad to relate to me? Just interested really, but any pointers or wise-like-an-owl words would be appreciated. Ta

Cool, cheers for that. I've never actually considered the NW before. It's been all about the UC system and New England when I've checked into American universities. The only NW uni that I know of is, well, Northwestern :) And it's supposed to be brilliant. I've got an appointment with my uni careers service when I go back next week, so I'll ask them to look into it for me.

The only NW uni that I know of is, well, Northwestern :) And it's supposed to be brilliant. Isn't Stryke so affluent and well travelled?
I've been to Paris, Barcelona and Athens.
Paris was a limited school trip but during World Cup ;98.
Barcelona was a day trip when I was about 8.
Athens was last Summer when we were drunk and went on a weekend trip whilst on holiday on an island.
Great fun, I belly danced and smashed plates.
Got drunk with some Italiens and saw all the sites for about £100-£150 including B and B.
I want to travel more but I'm saving up plus all my friends just want to go to club land and get drunk.

You might even be able to get into an internship on a nice "green" boat too..testing waters off the Coast and up through Alaska. Just up North, there's British Columbia, Quebec..Montreal..sure your French would come in handy eh?
I'm trying to work the "study abroad" plan in with G, but it's still all in the planning. I truly believe it would be great for him. My first degree is in Accounting and then I studied Int'l Business with minor in economics, concurrent for an MBA. It's all worked wonders for my real estate career..really, it has. I've always thought it would be exciting, absolutely fascinating to work as an ambassador in an Embassy somewhere in a foreign land. Ah well, one can have ambitions..
I believe extending yourself abroad is an excellent idea. If anything, you'll encounter different perspectives that will resonate as life long experience. Indeed it will change you. Aaaannd, if you can't handle it, you always go home...right?
If you did decide on the US, do you need sponsorship or a student Visa for your passport? Do you know what the procedures are? Just wondering.. :)
I know that when I studied at Hawaii Pacific University, there were a whole bunch of Swedish students there in the Int'l Business Program too, on scholarships! That was awesome. I know there are tons of scholarships and grants available from Federal and private resources alike for green students. You should check into it further..especially, because you're so clever, love. ;)

Is it fairly easy...and cheap, to just go to somewhere in Europe and plan where you want to go as you're there, or do you need a strict (ish) guideline?
