I'm pretty sure my laptop isn't meant to turn off on it's own, mid-CounterStrike. Can it overheat and shut down automatically? I'm sitting in a conservatory today, and an area just under where I rest my left hand gets quite hot (I assume that where the processor, or graphics card lives), so that could be why. Shall I pour water on it?

EDIT: Now it does - don't go smoking that!

About a year and a half old, I think. Out of warranty, so I may do that.

Has it got a fan? How old is the laptop?

Might be an idea doing what I did, by taking the back off and removing the 'power filter' that had formed over the heatsink.

One of our reps laptops kept on doing this. It WAS an overheating problem. Nothing like an irate sales rep screaming that they've lost 4 hours work to help you get the problem sorted out..........

Haha, I trick thee.

Seriously though, it's quite hot - will it turn itself off, then back on when my back is turned and kill me, like SkyNet?
