I thought the 1st album was excellent, a nice solid album with very few fillers. 2nd was ok, "Just Looking" was excellent.
And then I heard the new one yesterday, and it's really really boring. If a yawn had a soundtrack, it would be this.
When did they turn into a 30mph, slow-lane Rod Stewart covers band?

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Kelly is not "nasal". His sound comes purely from his throat.

I actually despise Oasis. No metter how poor the Stereophonics new album is. Oasis' is far, far, far....., far worse. They are now scum.
Come back Kelly. Get rid of these imposters.

Do the old stuff again. Like when you all went on stage in the pimp suits and banged out some of the best.
Stereophonics had a certain something in the late nineties, but they started making records that sounded the same and eventually became boring. They suffer the same problem as Oasis - boring, nasel-sounding frontman, surrounded by 'yes' men.

They got pap when Kelly decided he wanted to be mates with Oasis, that's my take on it.

I was and still am a huge Stereophonics fan, but I have to whole heartedly agree. In many ways their transformation was shown by Dakota being their first number one in the pop charts. This shows a change in style and possibly focus. Maybe they want more glory? Maybe V2 have put pressure on them to get the results.
Their lyrics always have been good, but in SVLO?, I think they were a mere glimpse of the brilliance of past songs.
The new drummer Javier is crap. I actually can't hear him in the majority of their songs.
They no longer do those cool solo parts that were in many of the songs on their old albums.
> When did they turn into a 30mph, slow-lane Rod Stewart covers band?
They're just using Kelly Jones' gravelly voice to appeal to a wider audience and use songs which already have a bit of depth unlike pop songs of today. I don't feel this is the way to go though because it means that their songs are no longer original.
In general t'is a sad, sad thing to be or have happened.
