This morning, at about 6.30, I went running. It was the first real cardiovascular exercise I've had in nearly 6 months.

Oh my god, you get unfit really quickly!
After 4 minutes I started to feel sick. After 5 it was gone again. On the home stretch, 20 minutes in, it came back and I really thought I was going to puke.
And my legs have felt feeble and weak all day.

How long does it take to get back into shape?

I'd guess I was going 8-10 mph (though I'm really not sure), for 20 minutes.
To be fair, most of it didn't hurt (or make me fear for my stomach lining), but I used to be much fitter than this!

Still, I feel great for having done it.

Not sure whether I could keep up the early mornings though - but even in nice areas I've found that you can expect to get crap from random a**holes when you go running. Where I live now you're just asking for trouble.
To be fair, it probably wouldn't be the kind of crap mentioned in my other thread ('How far...') - well, at least that'd probably be rare.
But it's not nice to deal with any of that sort of stuff, and I'd much rather avoid it.
And I'm a poor student, so no gym for me either.

Thinking about it, it's really messed up when you can't go running in any populated area without expecting to get crap from strangers.

Are there any nice areas of the UK, where you can expect everyone will at least treat people with respect?

Anyway, got off topic a bit. How long does it take to get back to non-puking levels of fitness?

I've got a 28" waist at 17.

I want to increase my weight a bit so I've got some fat to burn/muscleise when I exercise, but I can't seem to put any on.

I had a problem with obesity when i was younger... At age 17 i was a 40" waist. Now at 22 i'm a lovely 32" waiste, which took me almost 2 years to get back into shape. Its not a easy thing to do, but my advice Mumbai Duck, is eat lots of fruit and high protien foods, as you'll burn it off quickly, and try to stay off carbohydrates last thing at night, as they turn into fat rather quickely... also Mumbai Duck, if you feel pain after 20 minutes of excerise you have done too much and thats more damaging on your heart.... you should eat healthly first, and do swimming to start with as its easier on the body, after about 3 to 4 weeks you should then persue running and the other forms of exercise....

Oh don't buy into any of those weight watchers or health weight loss foods there just a scam, just eat plenty of fruit, espically if you eat 2 portions for breakfast, 2 portions for lunch, a healthy dinner and 1 portion of fruit, as then it means you meet the daily requirements for eating well....

BUT DONT OVER EXERT YOURSELF, ITS PROBABLY THE MOST DANGEROUS THING YOU CAN DO

I live at the very edge of the very edge of the suburbs of Glasgow, so I've got the green belt around me, nad it's 3 miles in one direction to the next village, and 7 miles in the other direction to another, so I've got plenty of running room.

Shame I'm extremely lazy and I NEVER go running.

:-(

I just can't be bothered. It's boring.
Maybe if I had an mp3 player to listen to music to I would, but I don't, so I won't.
