"I finally got round to watching Shaun Of The Dead"

The missus bought me the DVD at Christmas and I've only just gotten round to watching it. I was mildly worried because several people I'd spoken to had said they were disappointed with it, but I have to say I loved it - I laughed my ass off several times and did so again on a second viewing.

I'd never have thought that I'd laugh out loud at someone winding a disposable camera onto the next photo ...

No but then again I don't like many of the very english comedy programmes like Keeping Up Appearances and that thing about the landlord.

SOTD was like Big Train, very 'hit and miss'. I'd rather it went the Monthy Python/Victor Lewis Smith way of things. I like black comedy like The League but this just fell really short of my expectations.

Spaced is much better, the references are more mainstream and they don't over-indulge themselves too much in them so it's more about the comedy and less about showing off.

So you really didn't like Shaun Of The Dead?

It was about the writing.

Thankfully I didn't see the first film unitl after the second as it was terrible. Liz Hurley completely ruined it.

I'm sorry, but Austin Powers 2 was mostly jokes from the first film with one or two new ones. Plus it had a budget of $33 million compared to Shaun Of The Dead's $4 million.

Still, each to their own and all that.

I found one funny throughout and the other full of daft unfunny references that made it disappear up it's own ass

You could classify them both as Rom Com's. Altohugh I'd say applying 'comedy' to a description of SOTD is stretching it.

Shawn of the Dead and Austin Powers 2?

Don't quite understand the comparison myself.

It's nowhere near as good as something like Austin Powers 2 though.
