Basically, it's a "dummy" election. Posters are allocated into groups, and have to start a campaign for other forum posters to vote for them.

Actually, general elections don't have a set date to be called - the winning party simply has a 5 year period in which to call the election, and they can do so at any time (but have to give a few weeks notice, of course)
