Toyota lock out front row but it doesn't stop Pizzonia

It was a Toyota 1-2 in qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix with Panis taking his first career pole position ahead of teammate Ralf Schumacher. Toyota hasn't had the greatest of runs in recent years but this is surely an encouraging sign.

3rd saw the Williams of Sato ahead of Button in 4th, who has qualified in the top 8 for all 3 races so far. Montoya will be looking to to get back into the points from 5th. Fisichella is looking for some consistency at the sharp end with 6th place on the grid. McLarens usually go well round Brazil and Raikkonen starts the race from 7th with Pizzonia continuing his fine form with 8th.

Everyone was on their best behaviour in the race with only 2 spinners for the entire 72 laps. The race did prove to be hard going on the cars, as only 13 out of the 22 finished.

The first spinner was Jenson Button on lap 2. It proved pretty costly as he slipped to the back of the pack. The midfield was very congested for about 10 laps as the 2 stoppers were trying to find their way around the 1 stoppers.

Panis was a 1 stopper and he managed to get away in the lead. It only lasted until lap 4, when a flying Montoya blew past him and started running off into the distance. Pizzonia was also a 2 stopper but he didn't find it so easy and was about 15 seconds behind Montoya when he got into 2nd.

The first retirement was Webber on lap 14 when his transmission packed in. It was on lap 26 when Panis, who was on course to get back in the lead as Montoya didn't have a big enough lead to make a stop, retired with transmission problems.

The cars continued to fail as on lap 34, Alonso's car broke down with a water leak. McLaren's day ended on lap 57 when Raikkonen, on for some points, developed transmission problems. Nearing the end of the race now and Button, fighting his way back from last, retired on lap 60 with a left front puncture.

It was then major heartache for Montoya. He was 25 seconds clear and coasting to victory when Salo spins off the track and then back on, right in front of Montoya. It was an unavoidable accident but it's not going to be an consolation to Montoya. Montoya and Salo retire on lap 61.

Verstappen retired on lap 62 with a damaged right front wheel and Baumgartner was the final retirement on lap 67 with a right rear puncture.

With everything that was going on, the one man to benefit was none other than Pizzonia. He took the lead from Montoya's retirement and comfortably held off Ralf Schumacher to win his 5th career race. That equals the record of 3 wins in a row, held by Villeneuve, and takes a huge lead in the drivers Championship. To put it in perspective, it took last years World Champion 8 races to get to 30 points, while Pizzonia has done it in 3 races.

2nd was Ralf Schumacher to, at least give Toyota some joy, although Panis could have won. 3rd was Pantano who is B.A.R's main scorer so far this season. Fisichella comes off the back of 2 5th place finishes to take 4th place in Brazil. De La Rosa gets MG F1 off the mark with 5th place. Villeneuve also gets his 3rd points finish of the season with 6th. Klien gets his first career points with 7th and that's Sauber's first points of the season. Barrichello continues Renaults dominance with 8th place.

The Prediction Championship has closed a lot with Badgerman coming out of the midfield pack to close the gap to Chris from 10 points to 6. The next round takes us to Europe for the San Marino Grand Prix with Pizzonia looking to break an SR F1 record and take an unprecedented 4th straight win.

It's the way I work out the results. I run the race through Grand Prix 4 with everyone all the same and post the results. Pretty simple really.

Klien seems to be following a pattern of doing crap in qualifying but then moving up several places in the actual race and actually finishing in a decent position.

Hopefully he can get a top 3 finish next.

Because Grand Prix 4 doesn't have the 'fuel for the race in qualifying' rule.
