A couple of close friends of ours have been trying for a baby for many years now without much luck.

9 months ago she got the best present anyone could have ever given her, she was told that she was pregrant. You could see the stars in her eyes and the happiness shone through her like rays of sunshine - her life was made, it was like a dream, finally, she would have the family she always wanted.

She's had a wonderful pregnancy, if there ever was one - no throwing up, no pain, no dodgy cravings of any sort and all regular check ups have shown both mum and baby to be healthy.

Baby is due on April 13th and what have I learned today? 1 week before the baby is due our friend is taken into hospital yesterday evening because the baby had stopped kicking and moving around in her stomach, later found that the baby had infact died.

She had to still give birth to the baby, knowing that when the baby comes out into this world it will be dead. Our friend was lucky to survive the ordeal leaving both parents devastated and wishing there was a god.

What had started as a dream soon became a nightmare.

Why is life so cruel?

Can someone tell me if thats even possible, atheism being a refusal to believe in the possibility contradicts something in Buddhism i'm sure.

And I'm sorry about what happened to your friends, Neo. I have few friends who have been trying for years to have children with no luck. Makes no sense that some people can pop kids out irresponsibly without being able to properly care for them, while horrible things like this happen to people that really want kids.

This is the kind of stuff that I don't understand either, although I was raised to believe in God and the Christian faith. My mother says that these types of things happen because people are not repenting, turning to God, and living "right". I just have a hard time believing that. Naturally, my mother thinks that I'd be burning in The Inferno if I died tomorrow...

Terribly sorry to hear that, Neó.

All the best to 'em, and I hope they can find peace, and have a family some day.

In the beginning, God created man. He created man in likeness of himself.
He gave man free will. This set us aside from the animals. This gave us
power. This gave us the choice to follow Him or to go alone without religion.
We have been given so much by God. Because He gave us free will He lost some control over what happens in life.
We cannot lay blame to anyone for the things that happen in life.
All we can be is our best for ourselfs and others in times of need. It may be best not to think about the lost child but the ones on their way.
And how much help and support you see around you any time you are in trouble. This is how God shows his love.
This is in answer of your question.

There's no answer to that, sadly.
Things just ... happen, and there's no reason for them - it doesn't matter who they happen to, or how many times.

Just makes you angry, but there's nothing to be angry at.

My mum lost her first kid. Would have been my big brother ... about 24 now.
But she had 3 other kids after that with no problems and, being honest, I wouldn't be here if he had survived.

There's no reason for it. Life f***s up sometimes.
