Lo all, just wanted a quick browser test on this before I get too far into development:

I've checked it in FF 1.0.2/Mozilla/Camino & IE 6.2, specifically loomking for a screener from Safari.

Natural flow with the overall shape. Need a little tweaking, but the top flower should look like it is dissappearing behind the site fram whilst the one below is outside. The shadows need a little work.

Read previous posts and you'll see they're only temporary until I fix my little problem. They should end up looking like this:

Really silly niggle, but on your contact page it looks a bit silly with the label next to the textarea, needs to be lowered a bit to fit in with the alignment of the labels and the inputs, if you see what I mean.

508 isn't the killer one, it's WCAG3 - sooo restrictive. For a start, you can't have any absolute dimensions, e.g. you can't use 90px, you have to do everything as %. So evil....

I'm not designing it though, I'm just helping to ensure it is standards compliant. I'll let the designer sort out most of it before he passes it to me!

Your mad, have you read the full 508 spec? Some of the majour stubling blocks is longdesc for images, having to provide a monochrome version of the site and ensuring images don't flicker @ 50Hz!! I have yet to see a fully compliant 508 site..

From section508.gov:
--------------------------------------------------------

Web-based Intranet and Internet Information and Applications (1194.22)

The criteria for web-based technology and information are based on access guidelines developed by the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium. Many of these provisions ensure access for people with vision impairments who rely on various assistive products to access computer-based information, such as screen readers, which translate what's on a computer screen into automated audible output, and refreshable Braille displays. Certain conventions, such as verbal tags or identification of graphics and format devices, like frames, are necessary so that these devices can "read" them for the user in a sensible way. The standards do not prohibit the use of web site graphics or animation. Instead, the standards aim to ensure that such information is also available in an accessible format. Generally, this means use of text labels or descriptors for graphics and certain format elements. (HTML code already provides an "Alt Text" tag for graphics which can serve as a verbal descriptor for graphics). This section also addresses the usability of multimedia presentations, image maps, style sheets, scripting languages, applets and plug-ins, and electronic forms.

The standards apply to Federal web sites but not to private sector web sites (unless a site is provided under contract to a Federal agency, in which case only that web site or portion covered by the contract would have to comply). Accessible sites offer significant advantages that go beyond access. For example, those with "text-only" options provide a faster downloading alternative and can facilitate transmission of web-based data to cell phones and personal digital assistants.

--------------------------------------------------------

Luckily it only applies to US federal websites!

Good luck;)

Oh I see - that's a very cool idea. I had noticed the

thing on your site when I visited actually.

If you do get the form labels working the same way, please let us know how - over the next few months I'm going to be helping build several totally accessible pages that still look good.

Hopefully, when done, they will be XHTML Strict, valid CSS and then Bobby, 508, and WCAG 1, 2 & 3 approved. Lol.

If you look at http://dev.digital-prozac.co.uk/, the welcome text is done using CSS image replacement. The HTML still uses the

Welcome

, but the css replaces this with the Welcome image by using the image in the background of the H1 and moving the text out of the parent div...

Still with me?

If you disable styles, the h1 becomes working code again as well as being picked up in text browsers and SEO by default.

It's actually a very clever trick, but...

I was trying to adapt the same technique to replace form labels using
