I went to Chessington on Saturday, been there loads of times and it was OK. The vampire is shut for 2001 because they are changing it and I'm too old for Professor Burp's Bubbleworks - so I was slightly dissapointed.
My Chessington ticket got me free entry to Thorpe Park on the Sunday, I'd only been once before and it was rubbish then, but I have to say they made quite some effort and I was very impressed.
Alton Towers is still the best in this country though!

I'm sure the rides at Peter Pans were made by Gypseys!
Its amazing how many screams I hear from there when I walk past. I have never screamed or anything in that place.

This is my quick analysis of theme parks!
Peter Pans Playground = a joke
Alton Towers = great but too far away
Chessington = Fun, close but not so many thrill rides
Six Flags (USA) = absolutely amazing. They are everywhere and feature some of the best rides. Superman in New England is the best ever!!
Universal Studios = The tour is cool and Jurassic Park ride is amazing
Disney = More for kids best to go when younger
Peter Pans Playground = a joke
