Pure power and gameplay in the palm of your hand, able to be played anywhere and everywhere. Doesn’t this just sound great?

It sure does, but there is one thing about handheld gaming that really drives me insane. More insane then the fact that my memory card has been wiped or that my hours worth of MP3 downloads have been deleted. To drive me this insane it has to be a real annoyance and it sure is.

Ok, picture the scene. You just get back from school/work and realise that your Gameboy Advance has turned up on your doorstep along with two of the best games for the system. You put in the batteries included in the pack and play away thinking all is fine. You’re enjoying yourself so much, never had Mario looked so good and never had gameplay. You are enjoying yourself so much to the point that your eyes are so firmly locked onto the small screen that you don’t dare look anywhere else. That, my friends. Is surely going to happen to all you proud GBA owners out there on June 22nd.

But heres to the point, you are enjoying yourself, having so much fun, you have got really far in the game. You have nearly completed Mario, set new lap records on F Zero and got full stats for your character on Tony Hawks. But then, suddenly, without you even knowing it was going to happen, the screen turns black. Is this a glitch in the game? You hit your GBA a couple of times and shout “Work! Work!” but it just isn’t working. You even think about sending you’re new bestest pal back, until you realise what has happened. The batteries have run out.

How upsetting can it get? If there is one think that annoys me about handheld gaming it has to be this situation. I would advise and I will be purchasing a battery pack for my GBA so I can plug it into the mains and charge it up as much as I can. I don’t want my hours worth of work going down the drain. I would strongly advise that you get one of these packs, they can be recharged over and over and you don’t have to buy any more batteries. The amount of money you spend buying battery’s you could spend buying more games for you to drool over.

So, be a clever handheld owner and back up your hours worth of game playing skills.

And if not, lets just hope those batteries included with the GBA will last a long time.

Fingers crossed and happy gaming,

So what you mean is you use an adaptor in conjunction with a battery pack. I see.

You just said adaptor, no mention of adaptor + battery pack.

An adaptor plugs in the wall you know. You still need to be near a socket.

Well, you charge up the adaptor and stick it in the back. It makes the unit a bit bigger but not at all noticable. Plus you get extra backup so its all worthwhile and still totally portable.

What is the point of buying a PORTABLE games unit then?

I used to have 2 pairs of rechargable batteries for the Gameboy colour.

One charged during the day while the other charged during the night.

Now they're both fully charged as I wait for my brother to get my a politoad for trading so I can complete the pokedex once and for all!

Ahem...

One disadvantage I think is that it makes the handheld look more chunky and out of shape.

I have used some that don't feel as comfortable when used with the battery pack. I think though, with everyone charging up their 'much used' mobiles that more people will charge up their GBA from the mains.

It is a much better idea and I will use one no mateer what.

In my opinion, the ISP is the best I have ever used. They guarantee 'first time connection - everytime', which they have never let me down on.
