I was just wondering, how many of you guys actually have Multi Region DVD players? I currently don't own a DVD player that I can call mine, but there a few British Region encoded models in my house which are useless to me. I say this because of the simple fact that I am a big fan of the American DVD discs, so I opt to order online for foreign versions of the movies I seek. And now I am looking to purchase the "Thomson DTH 3300" which I have heard rave reviews about, any of you guys have this model?

To be fair, the recent PAL releases onto DVD format here have been impressive, and I purchased "The Terminator", "Gladiator" and "X-Men" upon release without hesitation. All exceptional discs with superb extras and features, much alike the American versions.

So the modern status looks promising, but I still find it hard finding decent versions of the classic flicks of the early and pre 90's, there so damn hard to come by. I'm a massive fan of such movies like "The Evil Dead", and I already have the saga, even though I cant play them on any of the models in my house.

Ultimatley, this will all be academic, I think that eventually all DVD players will be encoded to play multi region, and that's the way it should be. Like I said, I think that they all have there advantages/disadvantages, different regions appeal more to some people than others.

Tell me what you guys think, what Models and regions do you prefer?

Ok, let me get this staight. When I purchase my Multi Region model and play my "Evil Dead" saga, is the performance going to be degraded? We have a great home cinema setup in the house with all kinds of equipment which is gibberish to me, although considering the ammount of money my parents have spent on it, I'd expect the best quality and performance.

I have an all region DVD player and all I can say is that NTSC discs absolutely suck, yes they come out earlier and are slightly cheaper, but the lower resolution and colour quality is not worth the effort, unless you stump up for a player which can convert the signal to PAL 60hz without putting in the 1 second jump every six seconds.

And I don't know why you would say Romeo Must Die has been cut, I have the Region 2 version and my friend has a Region 1 version and they are exactly the same!

*steps on soap-box*

I'm a multi-region man myself. Why? Well, because the Region 2 market ALWAYS gets the short end of the stick for the major releases or for any releases for that matter. I mean, Terminator 2, it'll be out a year in the US by the time it hits these shores. It's not good enough, how many times have we seen inferior transfers too, whilst the Region 1 contingent will no doubt see a superior transfer with extras to boot.

Besides, I pay £16-£17 for Region 1 releases such as; Castaway, Traffic and Meltdown to name but a few. Why should I pay £20-£25 for the exact same discs which have more likely been cut by the BBFC (Romeo Must Die anyone?) and are inferior to their Region 1 counterparts.

*steps off soap-box*

Just my two-penneth worth though.
