Hi there.
Recently, I decided to make a move to contact lenses after wearing glasses for 12-13 years of my life.
After my appointment on Saturday (where they checked if I was suitable and the optician shoved them in to see if I was OK) - I had another 'session' today to show me how to put them in/take them out.
Unfortuanatly the woman that dealt with me never really 'showed' me anything whatsoever she just gave me the lenses and kind of sat there watching me.
I was able to put them in OK (well, after a few tries), but taking them out was a real pain. The woman was no help either.
Eventually I had to get this optician guy to take them out for me and I have re-booked an appointment for tomorrow to try again.
Just wondering if any of you guys wear lenses and if you have any advice you could give me on taking them out/putting them in.

I dunno about being 'greatful', but I suppose I could be grateful for your input..
See, I was going to put 'grateful' but I assured myself that spelling it like that would be silly, and that 'greatful' is a much more logical spelling of it. Stupid un-logical people deciding how to spell words... :(
i find it easier to get take lenses out.
whatever you do, try not to fold them as you put them in, if they break apart, it can take ages for the eye to work the pieces out and you spend hours with your eyes watering.

I wore them once. After a few days you get used to touching your eyeball with your finger and get used to the stinging so you stop blinking which flicks the contact lens into the sink and makes you bang your head on the tap as you're looking for it.
The basic procedure is:
1: Place contact lens on tip of finger (the right way up, the lip of the lens will curve outwards if it's the right way up).
2: Look upwards and place lens on the white surface of your eyeball.
3: Remove finger, pray lens sticks to eyeball, and slowly look downwards towards it, hoping it'll slide up over your iris and stay in position.
4: Close eye gently until waves of pain recede, then open eye gently. If you can see then it's in place.
5: Repeat steps 1 - 4 for other eyeball.
What you never get used to is walking down the street and then a gust of wind hits you head on and blows the contact lenses to the backs of your eyeballs where they sting like crazy and you have to shut your eyes and stop moving and wait 20 minutes for them to float back around to the front again.
The other great benefit is that you get into a lot more fistfights as you're not wearing glasses anymore so irate persons are more likely to throw a punch.

Putting them in is ok, as long as you don;t fluff it.
fluff it up and your eyes go red, and become more sensitive then it becomes harder to put them in.. etc.. etc..
Lenses are evil for a while, but they really are a case of practise makes 'much-easier-if-not-perfect'.
