Are games too expensive? I believe they are. The games industry is bigger than film now, and games cost far less to produce than films, but still, we spend £40 on a game we get to keep forever, but you only need to spend £5 on a film you see once. Even if you buy a film, it’s only about £12. I am not blaming the retailers for this situation, as they have to make a profit on what they buy. I blame the publishers and the Government. In my eyes, a CD costs 50p to make. You pay developers £10,000 a month, and there’s a team of 20 for 7 months. That’s $1,400,000. You sell, say, 1 million copies of a game, at say, £30. That’s £30,000,000. WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO???
I think Tony should clear this up for me, or am I right? Are we paying way over the odds for games?

(I remember this because Game vouchers could only be used "on purchases £30 or over" and games were £29.99! Damn!)
Back during the cartrige days, games were expensive due to being made out of expensive carts, being hard to mass produce and the technology was expensive.
Now days the CD's are cheaper to produce but the money has to be split between a large devellopment team.
Because so many games are purchased these days, games can afford to be cheaper.
When the Snes was hot the games were £50 average,i think the Ps1 was the break through on cheaper games and the PS2 has them the cheapest every seen for a new game and new console.
my point being the prices are going down and the games are getting better and better.

Thats why I didn't answer that question, it is probably due to it not being home grown!

Sonic
I asked this qeustion recently and was told that, aside from things like the 10% 'invisible tax', PAL is higher quality than the US one (NSTC, or something like that)-there are more lines on the TV. The extra price is paying for people adapting the game to PAL

Take heed.
