If you haven't already (or you don't go in the crap that is general chat) - whip yourself over to this article.

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/article/145/ntl-broadband-upgrade-speeds-from-8th-march

And then get excited.

Because you can upgrade now.

Just shifted myself over to 2mb smoothly.

Oh yes.

Disclaimer: I am in no way endorsing the use of NTL, I am merely stating a fact for users of the service. Freeola is amazing, or something.

If you're only using the net for a couple of hours a day it's fine. Plus it's far cheaper than pay-as-you-go.

I've done just under 200meg today, and that's including random videos that I've downloaded. I've been on a lot today too, I hate having to work on an essay with a 2MB connection at my laptop! In fact, I hate having to work at this laptop full stop. In fact, fact, I hate working full stop!

well yeah, obviously i understand that aspect of it, but relatively little of the internet is optimized for 2 or 3 meg connections they're a bit of a waste of time at this point. well unless you're doing lots of p2p stuff as well i suppose, and as long as your machine is suitably beefy to do all that and run other apps.

but 3 gig a month?? that's excessively low. i don't consider myself a huge downloader by any degree, but if get a series of old cartoons on torent or something then that's my months allowance all used up, yet i don't do that often enough to justify getting the 2 meg connection.

will there be any leeway does anyone know? will the limit only be enforced if you break it a lot? (sorry if this has already been answered, i'm a little rushed and haven't read back)

If the cheapest package had a 30GB limit then loads of people would downgrade to 1MB just because it's cheaper and it's fast enough for most people. NTL would be making hardly any profit on the connections as £17.99 is nothing.

It had to be done or there would have been biiig problems for NTL.

Nope but I'd be interested in something like that too.
Think NTL mentioned something on their site about making software that lets you measure your broadband bandwidth but I've not seen anything yet.

so they're making their cheapest package so useless that everyone needs to shell out the extra.
yay capitalism.

What does this Down2Home measure exactly?

The traffic coming in/out of your ethernet port?

Hmmm.

I'm really looking for something that measures bandwidth on the network on a whole, something that can adapt to the router downstairs.

Got any ideas?

I selected my Ethernet connection and it was still as stubborn.

I'll reinstall and try again.

Cheers for the program.

Phil right click the icon in the system tray and go to options. Click on the adapters tab, select the one you want to monitor and it should work.

Grrrrrr, nothing works!

I'm connected through a router to an NTL modem. I'm using ethernet to connect.

Why can't it measure it?! I've found a great program that monitors just web browsing but apart from that, I'm stuck!
