I think we have less tolerance for crappy 'show formulas' which is why Friends was on Channel 4 and not ITV or BBC1.
Yeah, because they have "seasons". Which means just that. Maybe it's because to the British, our seasons last six weeks and then we have indeterminate grey in between.

Which is why they take ages for good ones to get to the US as the US channels want a large amount of episodes/shows to work with.
That's a normal length for a British series. Yes, series. Not season.
Maybe it was just a short series like Little Britain which only has 6 shows a season/series/shaddapayourfaceablank. :P
