Right I have a link on my site that links to another site, streetmap. Just using PHP to echo out the link and the variables to the specific location....
I want to open this link in a new window

How do I do that? :-)

Secondly is there any drawbacks to opening a link in a new window, is is there certain browsers that don't handle it well etc.

Cheers

That's what I thought. But then, it is bloody annoying when sites keep opening new windows, as though the back button was never invented...

Seems distinctly unjustified.

Aye, target="_blank" is a no-no with Web Standards.

But it's the only way to do it, without delving into Javascript (or JavaScript - I can't remember... Stupid names... )
