"Upgrading.."

Looking to get the following components, just wondered what people thought of my choices and I need some help on the graphics card decision if you would! Here is what I'm planning to upgrade to:


AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail (CP-101-AM
Price: £167.50 (£196.81 Including VAT at 17.5%)


Abit AN8 Fatal1ty nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-069-AB)
Price: £109.95 (£129.19 Including VAT at 17.5%)

and the graphics card choice is out of :

Connect3D ATI Radeon X850 XT 256MB DDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-028-CO)
Price: £269.95 (£317.19 Including VAT at 17.5%)

OR

Leadtek GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) (GX-049-LT)
Price: £244.95 (£287.82 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Any help/advice on better or alternative components would be much appreciated! All from overclockers or scan.co.uk.

Definitley, it is a faster card.

Don't take my word for it though, type in X800 XT or X850 XT Bench test into google or X800 vs 6800. You will see which card comes out on top nearly every time. Also ATI cards offer better picture quality.

Go GeForce....

I reckons, as it overclocks better and eventually you can run it in SLI with another GeForce.

Just a warning, Pixel Shader 3 is completely over-hyped. Check bench tests for Far Cry etc, it has no effect most of the time. The only exception is with Thief 3 which Eidos rammed up the ass with Nvidia anyway.

The board is decent. The name is gay.

But I am a celebrity! So is the board actually any good?

Please don't buy a fatal-one-tee-why motherboard, if only to stop hardware manufacturers parading pro-gamers as celebrities.

But what about Pixel Shader 3.0 is it needed yet because a few games like SC: CT / FEAR / Far Cry etc use it. That's my only concern going for that card.
