But I didn't say the thread didn't have a point, I simply asked what it was; bearing in mind it doesn't work for most people.
Oh, and the friends thing hasn't worked for most people since the beginning of time, so the chance of it getting fixed anytime soon is fairly small.
I hope I'm wrong though, playing with people just by saying "look for such-and-such server" is a bit annoying.

Gathering nicknames from this thread, believe it or not, doesn't actually require Steam. So what if the friends list doesn't work (it does for me, Yippee) get a pen, get a piece of paper, write down get people's nicknames and type them in when the problem is sorted.
Therefore this thread has a purpose, therefore it isn’t pointless.

works pretty well for me, people come online their name goes white i click them and join them in game
