Download a plugin for your favourite mp3 player, and audioscrobbler keeps a record of all the songs you play EVER on its website. This is good because it lets you know how cool your taste actually is, as opposed to how cool you think it is, by generating weekly and all-time charts. This is my page: http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/unknownkernel/ I've been doing it for ages and the most I've ever listened to a song is 7 times. Surprising. And my favourite song is apparently M'Gell by Ultrakurt, which I've never heard of but turns out to be a song on a mix CD I have.

Anyway, the coolest thing is that everything is linked. Click on a song in your profile and you get a list of other people who love that tune, or listen to it a lot because they really hate it. Click on an artist and you get a list of their most popular songs. Click on a user and you see all their fave tunes, plus what they're listening to RIGHT NOW. Woo! You can also get reccommendations based on what you listen to - like amazon except that it works, and throws up things you've never heard of.

And and and you can make your own groups, and I have very cleverly made a special reserve one for you to join http://www.audioscrobbler.com/group/Special%2BReserve Groups with 10 or more members get weekly charts, so Special Reserve would have its very own number one.

So, yes, you should all join.

Why are you thankful for the people you know not to have the same music taste?
Some people I know off the net listen to complete opposite to my taste. No Massive Attack/Thomas Newman/Nick Drake, etcetc, it's all evil dance/trance/techno stuff they listen to, most of which I can't stand and, of course, they hate the stuff I listen to saying it's boring stuff. Obviously not paying attention to the pure beauty of it all. :) So I'd be thankful if I had a friend who had exactly the same taste as me!

I don't understand what you mean by this thing. If its good music, everyone listens to it. Its as simple as that. But even then, I don't understand why people think that they are hardcore music lovers if they listen to certain types of music or music from a particular group/artist/band.

I imagine the reason for that to be something like the following: -
- - - - -

You constantly criticize a person for being over enthusiastic or being obsessed about a certaain model/band/artist/actor.

You take pride in listening/appreciating an another band/artist/model/actor.

The person whom you despise starts listening to/admiring your fave artist/band/actor/model.

You lose your enthusiasm in that artist/actor/model/band

- - - - -

Maybe thats the reason. People who constantly criticize teenagers for lack of maturity or for being over enthusiastic; Sub Consciously despise their likings too.

Yeah, I Agree. But then, if you do understand that, you are expected to stop pouncing on people for the above reason. Its just something like kids like Bob the Builder or like reading comics. They have seperate hobbies, others have others.

Fair point, there's no accounting for taste.

But maybe they don't like that stuff? That doesn't mean their taste is "bad". There's no point in listening to loads of varied music if you don't actually like it.

Flock, I'd rather listen to Elliott, Rival Schools Mars Volta and the Pumpkins over Fleetwood Mac. Even if I like FM.
