Microsoft's xbox owners will then be ex pc gamers and you'll probably get bored away from quake and unreal.so why move to the xbox which is nothing special (I've seen it running twice) so why buy the xbox when you probably own something even more powerfull right in front of you now.

I'D TAKE THAT BET, AND YOU'LL LOSE. I have a PC, PS1 (gathering dust of course), Dreamcast, and a PS2.
The PS2 will (IMO) go the same way as the Dreamcast, it's games are just too easy to get hold of in pirated format.
And the sad thing is, unlike the PS1, the PS2 doesn't need to be chipped to play PS2 pirated games.
