if it's pixar-based then they'll probably be sharing resources instead of being in competition.
it's not so much a case of setting their own independant studio up, more likely they'll throw some funding pixars way in return for pixar making the movie.
besides, if you were going to turn your biggest cash-cow franchise into a movie, you'd want the best in the business to handle it as well... especially having learnt from the live action debacle.

I meant change the crappy drawings, make it a 3D film and get rid of the Disney like make it so its adventurous, not an asswipe singing his way to a castle were a mushroom will tell him s*** like if you are pure of heart you can kick Bowsers (or probobaly King Koopas) head in!
