Just happened to stumble across a new option (for me anyway) in the FREEOLA Control Panel - Email settings, called SPAM CHECK
Before I 'blow a gasket' I thought I would ask other FREEOLA customers here if they are aware of this and it's just me that's missed a COMMUNICATION.
I knew FREEOLA were introducing anti-spam s/w but this option is news to me.
Over the last couple of weeks I've commented to Customer Services that I believe I've missed emails - not a lot back except for "your problem should now be resolved..."
Now I've found this option that shows what emails have been blocked!
I have around 50 FREEOLA domains and can see a maintenance nightmare.
Before I go any further, I would be interested in the comments of other FREEOLA customers.
I don't want spam, but I have found a least one mail that is from one of my clients and has been blocked over the last few days.
I don't want to be in the position where I now have to contact one of my customers and ask if he could re-send an email and mind your language or whatever is triggering the filter!
As I said, I have around 50 domains on freeola (adding a couple a month), so say with about 5 email accounts per domain that's a lot of Control Panel logging in and clicking/reading before I then have to make a decision to contact a sender or not.
Below are some suggestions/comments in no particular order:
* As you can see the current spam controls aren't working for me - I would like the option to disable the function.
* No spam filter is 100% reliable, so I need to be able to make the final judgement on whether my mail is deleted or not. Another provider dialmediagroup.com seem to have a useful system(dspam). They filter everything like you, then send one summary email a day that contains a log of all the blocked spam, with options to read, whitelist etc. Without a system similar to this I would rather manage the spam with my own methods rather than miss one 'real' email.
* As we have all lived with spam for a long time now - could you not have piloted your new system with some volunteers before applying it across the board? This would allow you to refine things and gather this sort of feedback before making a fundamental change to your email service.
* Would you be able to enforce your spam on your free (1000) domains but give better options for those who have bought domains?
* I also manage domains for other people. They haven't a clue what the freeola control panel is (and wouldn't want to), I'm not sure how I'm going to manage this under the current setup. If they see I can now get a list of emails (good and bad) that pass through their domain I can see this will open up some privacy issues for me.
Finally, Danny - Please keep this dialogue going. I have read elsewhere your preferred customer service route but this seems a simple way to deal with this for now. If guests flame the thread please either ignore or remove those posts.
Thanks.
This way users could just use the filtering rules in Outlook Express or whatever to move anything with "**SPAM** :: " at the beginning into a Junk Mail folder.
Webmail is now being developed as a service which includes SMTP/POP access as well - it'll be a competitive 'few quid a month' service with total e-mail freedom for one Freeola 1000 address or unlimited addresses at a domain.
Webmail is obviously worldwide anyway but Outlook Express or other mail program users will also get worldwide access as long as mail is checked before attempting to send (POP before SMTP as it's known).
There is a far more definite date on the horizon for this - i'm looking at receiving working examples by March 1st.
With hotmail, they've got a setting which lets any email from people in your address book though, and the rest goes in the bin. BUT, you can still look in to that bin with their easy lay out.
You've had this many times from me, but any set date as to when the web mail will be available, if it is still on the cards? And if so, any chance it could emulate the hotmail filtering system regarding an address book?
