I've been complaining recently about missing emails.

Just happened to stumble across a new option (for me anyway) in the FREEOLA Control Panel - Email settings, called SPAM CHECK

Before I 'blow a gasket' I thought I would ask other FREEOLA customers here if they are aware of this and it's just me that's missed a COMMUNICATION.

I knew FREEOLA were introducing anti-spam s/w but this option is news to me.

Over the last couple of weeks I've commented to Customer Services that I believe I've missed emails - not a lot back except for "your problem should now be resolved..."
Now I've found this option that shows what emails have been blocked!

I have around 50 FREEOLA domains and can see a maintenance nightmare.

Before I go any further, I would be interested in the comments of other FREEOLA customers.

Sorry to go on...

From what I can see it looks like you are using AMaVISd for our anti-virus/spam protection.

The documentation shows a spam_lovers setting that can be used for users that want to receive spam.

There is also mention of the ability of amavisd to support per-recipient whitelists and blacklists - these two functions should keep all your users happy.

Hope this helps.

There is CONSTANT refinement to improve accuracy. I can't easily explain here how it works but there is a great deal of work that goes into keeping it as close to accurate as can possibly be.

No news on opt-out yet.

Has anything changed ?

Just requested a blocked email to be resent and this time it made it.
It was a proper email so I'm afraid I can't trust your filters.

As I said I have too many email accounts and freeola domains to continuously check the current spam report format.

Any news on the opt-out option yet ?
Thanks.

I think an opt-out option would be a welcome addition, or at least an option for no deletion. I've got Norton Internet Security’s spam filter enabled, and it tags the subject line with the term [SPAM], which lets me use Outlook Express's sorting functions to throw it all in a junk folder, but still enables me to do a quick scan to ensure nothing is in there that is important.

Having Freeola's system do the same tagging could enable me to keep my Outlook Express sorting on, yet ensure emails are not deleted automatically.

Thanks for the feedback.

If there's any movement on the opt-out function please try to update this post.

That's fair enough, but one option could certainly be to choose between mail being deleted, and mail being flagged. It would be very simple for your tech guys to do this - probably about 1-2 man hours - and wouldn't require maintenance afterwards.

As well as this, you could offer guides regarding how to setup mail rules in different email clients. I am sure people in here (including me) would be happy to write simple guides for this purpose.

Just to clarify, I am merely offering suggestions - I don't have any accounts with Freeola so please correct me if I am incorrect about anything I say, since everything I know about this system is based on what people have said in here.

Working on this as advised but could take a while yet.

Can't do anything on this - only the opt-out solution is going to work for you I think.

> * As we have all lived with spam for a long time now - could

There was obviously a period of testing in place before it was brought live to the masses. We feel that most people will be very happy with the new service.

No, not an option at present but remember, advanced e-mail protection is available with full management facilities.

That's a fair enough comment but we have never claimed to offer a reseller service to our customers which is probably what you need - e.g. have your customers deal with you and you deal with us.

I'll do my best but each word typed in here slows down another Freeola development ;-)

Nimco,

A certain level of spam (where we are not 100% certain of it's spamness - is that a word?) is TAGGED in the way you mention but the real crap is just deleted.

This decision was made due to the fact that the vast majority of Freeola users are not likely to know how to or want to set up a mail rule. I know that may seem weird to you guys who are obviously a bit more proficient than the average Joe but it's true so we have to cater for the masses as best we can.
