Well, I now have first 3 episodes of Lost Series 3, 4 episodes of Nightmares & Dreamscapes and all but 3 episodes of Torchwood on DVD thanks to my recorder.

It's surprising how good the picture quality is, even on EP (4 hours per DVD), on standard it's the same as the source.

It's linked up to my video at the front and Sky at the back, so I can finally record all those old home videos and anything rare I have on VHS.

Yamada are quite a good cheap brand. They also go under the name Kazuki.

Mine plays pretty much anything I throw at it including .avi files I download off the net. Its got a USB port and card reader built in too. Worth knowing about incase you would use those features.

We've had about 3 that needed hacks and they've all worked fine :) Though I think one did develope faults later on.

My brother just bought a Philips one, can't remember how much it was, maybe £35+, we got the code off Amazon for that.

Not sure about the cheapest one that doesnt need a code. I'll have a look.

I got one from Amazon and it cost me £19.99 :) like pb said DVD players are really cheap, unless you live in America. They dont seem to have cheap multi-regional players :S

Had trouble unlocking the previous one I had So IO'd better go for one that plays most formats and all regions straight out of the box.

Most players are cheap as chips now and all of them are pretty good. Or get a cheap shop one by checking it against one of the remote hack websites.

My DVD Recorder is a DD-A110 btw.

Hmmm I've found a couple of 20 quid ones on amazon with generally good reviews.

Might as well get a Liteon DVD Recorder from Tesco (£69.99). They're region hackable with the remote and you can throw away your video recorder too.

Oh, and they have optical out for Surround/5.1 as well.

They're not online though, so it would need to be from a store. bright yellow box, can't miss it.
