Didn't think Cruise could pull it off, but he seemed genuinely menacing. Some very clever dialogue and some frankly superb action scenes to rival even the bank scene in Heat. Nothing felt put on, overly cut or unrealistic.
I'm glad there was no use whatsoever of cheesy slow motion or misplaced comedy. The taxi driver was believable as a guy forced into a dire situation and never once descended into the dreaded 'zero to hero' cliché personality, whimpering one minute and shouting 'swallow this' the next.
One of the better films I've seen in recent times.

It was pretty good. Great for a movie based upon a comic character. Strange lack of blood though...
Yeah, Fanning's death surprised the hell out of me. I expected him to save the day, and then out of nowhere, he gets several bullets. The scene in Club Fever was brilliant, and the following scenes in the cab, with Audioslave backing the carnage.

Fanning getting shot was awesome, straight from nowhere, it blindsided me. I also liked Max's response to the question: "Oh yeah? What are you gonna do?" Pow! The final scene on the train was brilliant, with the train lights buzzing and the strafing along the train doors. It's also possible that Max would continue to be pursued as the hitman, as the only person who believed it wasn't him was Fanning. It's a very clever movie, no character is black or white.
On the whole, there was a pleasing lack of awkward comedic moments, some great chemistry between the two leads and some genuinely interesting characters. Helps that the movie looks great too, can't recall a film making LA look so fantastic at night before.
8/10

Riddick was pap, and Hellboy could've been great, but wasn't.

He hasn't done much, but he's meant to be directing and producing the Miami Vice remake
