I need to think of some new tactics to defeat them.

Use a stupid accent and pretend that you can't understand what they are talking about. Make sure you can make a good job of the accent first though or you will look stupid.
I just use a loud army whistle.
If they tell you their name (as they usually do) go "Hey! Susan! Is that really you!? I don't believe it!!" etc etc.
Also ask them to repeat everything back to you and give you details about the company and pretend to be writing it all down.
The best one I heard was to say you're a bit busy, and ask for their home phone number so you can call them back there later. When of course they refuse, feel free to point out the wonderful irony.
