Yeah, but they phone back sometimes.

I just say, "Go away" and hang up.

What are they going to do? Kill me?

It hasn't happened yet and I've been answering cold calls for a large corporation for over a year now.

Yeah, it's such a tragic waste of my time.

I mean, I just pick up the phone, say 'Hello?' then say 'No, he's not here', then 'Bye!'.

Simple.

I recently had a telesales person call me from a company I use as they were calling 'to inform me' about a new product they were promoting. I've no idea what it was about and didn't take them up on it but did end up chatting to the guy on the other end for maybe 10 minutes about football :)

If they are male agree with everything they say and start flirting with them, the way you normally would with a woman. "You have a lovely voice" and "I bet you're a big strapping handsome lad" work well, camping up your voice is also very effective.

If they are female, be more direct "I'll buy it if you'll sleep with me" scare them off VERY quickly.
