Although your point is a valid one Sony make little effort to protect their machines (Compared to Sega and Nintendo). They also want to profit from piracy, through increased playstation 2 sales and also through sales of DVDR drives (Sonys latest DVDR drive supports both DVDR+ and DVDR- formats well atleast according to my PC magazine).
How much were cd-r drives when the playstation arrived?? There is a trend there, demand will increase competition, competition will deflate prices and Sony will release the best DVD-r drive for reproducing ps2 games.
Unles you want to spend vast amounts of money on a DVD writer of course.......
