I seem to remember buying the A-Team region1 dvd and having to go pick it up from the post office and pay some customs charge or suchlike ontop of the price when collecting it.

Now I plan on buying another R1 boxset as its a lot cheaper, but I don't really fancy paying the charge if it can be avoided.

Is there anyway to avoid the charge? Am I right in guessing that if its shipped from the US I'll be paying but if it comes from within the UK then I wont?

Thanks

Nah, bought the R1 version before a R2 version had even been announced. Thought it would be one of those ones that never gets released on R2 or takes ages.

Ah right, sorry. Was it not out on R2 when you bought the R1?

Doesn't matter what the price is. I have imported a £400 digital camera and a £400 graphics card from the US and Hong Kong respectively and got away with both. Also got my US PS2 from Canada and buy a sh*t load of games and DVD's from both the States and Far Eas**t and have only been hit once with a tiny charge which was down to the fact the pos**ter hadn't paid enough to pos**t the item, s**trangely enough.

Providing they mark it as a gift with low value you should be alright. That is of course unless the fat t*at at Cus**toms decides he is going to act like a complete ass and take your parcel to pieces to find out the real value which is highly unlikely.

I ordered the ET boxset and it said there may be custom charges. Waiting to see...

Wonder if the same applies if you buy multiple items that make a total of more than £20.

No idea how it works, but if they mark the package 'gift', you can get away with that somehow.

I've ordered far too many from the US over the past year and have only been charged once. Even if they're well over £20 worth, but most of them were marked 'gift' or 'toys', some were even marked 'DVDs' so I have no idea why I'm not getting charged.

Yeah, you only get charged if the price of the item is over £20 I think, or around that????
Dont get any problem with single DVD's but have with sets at £24.99, ended up paying over £30

Excellent, may as well give it a try, will still be cheaper even if I do get charged.
