I've got one on my bottom gum, and it doesn’t half hurt!

I've been swilling salt water round in my mouth for the past hour and the pain seems to be getting worse!

Nah, I just suffered for a month or so. I don't know the exact time frame because it was, indeed, a long time ago.

Everytime I swallowed, everytime I ate, I felt it.

But didn't moan.

i bet you cried your little eyes out :P

There is a way to stopthem hurting but it means that you have to have more pain first. Scrunch your lip where the ulcer is really hard this will hur and the ulcer will bleed a bit, but when you stop there will be no pain at all. It lasts for about half an hour, good if you need to eat or something.
