I need some help, my dvd and cd-rom drives aren't workin, i dont know if ive got them installed or not, i put a disk in and it reads it for a second and then nothing happens, my floppy disk drive is workin fine.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

you could always check your bios and check that they are turned on to auto for secondary master and slave

Just open the case, look at the back of the optical drives and find the cables with long black connectors. Pull them both out (1 for each drive) and them put them back in again.

Umm.. Take your PC to PC World if ya don't know what IDE cables are.

Otherwise they're cables that connect the CD and DVD drives to the Motherboard.

Have you tried taking the IDE cables out and re-inserting them?

no, when i go into my computer, it doesnt even appear, it's just floppy disk and hard disk

If you go into my computer and right click on the drive, can you explore the cd contents?

im usin windows xp and i used system restore and put it back 3 months, then when i tried to watch a dvd or play a cd, it wasn't workin

A little more info would be great, whats the spec of the machine, when did this happen, after a reinstall of windows? or after a program was installed? etc etc
