I need to stop people being able to type in the URL of an image, but I need to be able to display the image in the HTML/PHP.

Let me explain better.

I don't want this:
http://www.mydomain.com/images/hidden_image.gif

But I want this:


Is it an HTDOCS trick? Can I hide some of the characters from display in the source?

I swear I've seen it done before. Only being able to access .html or .php pages from a directory.

Given that it's completely impossible to stop people taking a copy of an image on your site, why would you want to? The only thing I can think you'd be trying to prevent would be image leeches - they can be stopped by checking the referrer, although I don't know exactly how.
