I could just buy the game over Steam and instead download Counter-Strike: Source (it's more managible than HL2's 2GB download!). The reason why I can't go to the shops is because of health reasons, which is why I'm thinking of this route.
I think It'll be CS:S that is the deciding factor, or HL: Source as that might be a small download as I've already the original installed.
How much does its American price translate into pounds? It's something like 40-50 dollars I think for the silver/gold version.

I'm totally addicted to it. As a "freebie" included with HL2, I'd say I've played CS:S more than HL2 now. Don't get me wrong, HL2 is astounding, but It's the simplicity of CS:S that keeps me playing.
Didn't stop me having a terrible run last night however. Still, eventually managed to claw my way up to second.............

Not a chance. I'd say your best bet is to buy a dvd version, install and unlock / authenticate. HL2 is nigh on 3.5 GB, CS:source a GB. Downloading via 56k? Phooooooo.
You're still going to get unlock / update problems, but I think it's the better route.

You can tell I'm not thinking straight...
