you're under-estimating just how big their their influence on the metal scene was.
Pantera were one of the few remaining bands who (aside from their ill advised glam days) sisn't rely on costumes, gimmicks, pyro, spinning drum risers, masks, "dj's" or hair gel to get peoples attention. They were a brilliant no-nonsense metal band who just got up in their old faded metal shirts and cut off combat trousers and made the shows actually about the music, not the spectacle. They opened the door for not only a style, but an attitude within the metal scene and, to their credit, never strayed from it . a lot of bands could learn a lot from Pantera's path....
