Well, there's good reason why we don't know where we are.
Superheroes are stopping them from unleashing evil plots, thus we don't get to see them.

But Spidey and Superman also just save people and stop disasters - that's their primary work. Not too much of that goes on.
Maybe they've just streamlined their abilities into stopping everyone dying when these supervillans do arrive. Or they're just really, really sick of not being paid.
