It is my wish to build a 7.1 system of unimaginable destructive power, but I was foiled before I even started due to having nowhere to mount my damn rear speakers. My PC is against one wall and is also in the corner. This means that distances to the 4 walls are not equal for a kick off, distances differing by quite a bit. If I was to mount the speakers on the wall they would be miles away and I'm guessing would sound pap at that distance.

The only way I can see of doing it is to turn my desk around so my back is to the wall, and bracket them all right behind me. This would be perfect for surround effect but would make my room look ridiculous and would make it impractical for anything other than sitting hunched in the corner getting cheap thrills out of Doom 3.

Surely not everyone is able to put their PC in the middle of the room, or have smaller rooms that mean speakers are never that far away. How do us none-middle larger room people get around this?

My mum and dad came up with some golden ideas - "Have them hanging by the ceiling by chains" "That would look crap and I'd bash my head on them" "Well, rig up some sort of pulley system so they retract up to the ceiling" *sigh*.

Any ideas chaps and chappesses?

A mate of mine spent about 1500 nicker on a stereo, his housemate bought a telly for about the same price.

sure it's some wicked set up combined, but you can get quality sound for less.

Hi-Fis - flipping through magazines like "What Hi-Fi" always astounds me, at how much people are willing to pay for a piece of kit that performs the same as a good soundblaster card :P

- But then I am biased

I like both, home cinema has its charms. but loud music of premium quality is nirvana. (the state of mind, not the group, though they should not be overlooked)

I haven't. I'm a hi-fi man more than a games/cinema sound man.

Indeed I shall, they're mainly for gaming. I have a good Sony system for music, with a lowly 2 large speakers.

Cut off your legs? You won't need them much with a PC like that.

Besides if you run Find-A-Drug on it maybe one day we'll find a way of making limbs grow back. Then everyone's a winner!
