I have 1800 nicker to spend on a PC (ready built). I want it to be the best spec you can get for the money, designed for gaming and multimedia applications. That being the case I want a great cpu (preferably pentium 4, no less than 3.2Ghz), motherboard, gfx card and ram, as well as high rpm hard drives, preferably SATA RAID (10,000rpm) or similar, TFT monitor if possible though not essential (no smaller than 17"), good soundcard, DVD writer, second CDROM not essential, usual stuff like network card, front mounted USB ports, other miscellaneous peripherals I can't remember at this point.

I currently have my eye on the XPS systems offered by Dell, Alienware systems are well above my budget. Are there any other online vendors offering top spec PC's at reasonable prices (i.e. within my budget)?

Just thought I'd ask before I commit. I could build one up but the bottom line is that I just can't be bothered. Cheers for any input.

that's a pretty A1 system actually. what you currently running on, Biggles?

P.S> if it takes ages for me to reply, it's because of my crap PC that takes about two minutes to post a message. I'm sure i could sort it out, but I'm getting a new PC soon, so why bother.

I've bought many things from Scan in the past with no problems.

Scan are only 10 minutes drive from my house, maybe I'll give them a look. thing is, they strike me as cowboys.

You want a great CPU? Well that rules out anything made by Intel for starters.

Consider this. http://www.evesham.com/PCs/Configurator/Index.asp?e=848DC5EE-5F79-4856-8380-6B9A2BE14760

Or since you are probably too lazy:
AMD Athlon 64 4000+
1 GB RAM (2 x 512 MB sticks for dual channel)
250 GB hard drive
256 MB Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT
17" Viewsonic TFT
Windows XP Home
Other rubbish.
