Sony could be using the DVD player on the Sony PS2 to create an GBC emulator by Datel.

The graphics of GBC will be enhanced by the Gamestudio and will have eight titles with it!

There could be an Gameboy Advance emulator to follow as well.

No, because game software is liscenced. Nintendo would still have the copyright ont he product, and can therefore do what they want with it.

Seeing as a ROM is a copy of the software, Nintendo would be the only people who would be able to download it.

Does that mean if Nintendo download ROMS of their own titles that they are breaking the law?

Surely it defeats the whole point of 'exclusive' titles?

It's all very well having paid for the software, but if the company are expecting you to have the correct hardware to play it, and have their prices and marketing strategy adjusted accordingly, then it's going to be a big problem...

I guess it always depends how successful the device is. If there are serious knock-on effects, then I expect things will get messy.

All ROMS that you download are illegal because they are pirate copies of games so even if you have the original, having a ROM is also illegal!

The unit definitely exists - it's been on the Datel site for a while. Bear in mind though that it's not an official Sony product. Hadn't heard about the GBA version though.

Well, if Bleemcast is legal...

Sony didn't like it and tried to stop it, having their objections overturned in court. Nintendo may not like it, but I don't see that they'd have any more chance of stopping it than Sony did.

It raises once again the whole question of emulation and whether it's right or wrong. I suppose that as long as you have to buy the original software, it shouldn't be a problem. Unless of course the software in question is so old that you can't buy it any more; then you enter a whole other minefield!

Try going to www.datel.co.uk or www.codejunkies.com cos those are the official Datel webpages.

I haven't checked myself though.....

Are they allowed to do that?

Sounds very interesting. Where did you get this info? I'd like to read a littel more about it.

I expect Nintendo will be paid for the permission for this to go ahead if it's true!
