So I’m new to all this inside of the pc stuff so i have been browsing about with some help from friends and i came up with this: (remember i am new and i don’t have that much money) but this little bundle is looking real good at the moment..

Samsung Samtron 78E 17" CRT Monitor - Black (MO-006-ST) £72.03
(just wanted a cheap monitor to tie me over till i can afford a good one (about 2009 :P))

OcUK ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB DDR TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (XR98-C3) (GX-005-OK) £119.95
(spikecast recommended this plus it has free hit man contracts, so all's good.)

PC kit - Intel Celeron 2.4GHz, 256MB RAM, DVD-R/RW, 120GB £320.00
(This is the big mamma)

Creative Desktop 6000 - Retail (KB-003-CL) £20.80
(cheapest keyboard and mouse on the website, though they'd also just tie me over)

So, any ideas?

You might want a new motherboard/soundcard y'know... The case should be fine, but you *probably* need a new power supply.

Hahaha, that really, really ISN'T the "big mamma".
Pairing a 9800 Pro with a Celeron and 256mb RAM is like me telling Michael Schumacher to go through an entire race in first gear.

Don't you need a motherboard?

Also, an Intel Celeron? 256MB RAM?

Meh. You'll probably want to go AMD (I know I would if I could - but it's too late, next build), to get more juice for games.

However, Celerons are poor, as are their motherboards.

So replace "The Big Mama" [PC kit - Intel Celeron 2.4GHz, 256MB RAM, DVD-R/RW, 120GB £320.00
(This is the big mamma)] with the following;

£124 (OCuK) - Intel Pentium 4 "Prescott" 3.2GHz (800FSB) with HT Technology - Retail (CP-047-IN)

£95 (OCuK) - Abit IC7-G MAX2 Advance "Canterwood" (Socket 478) Motherboard (MB-032-AB)

£55 (OCuK) - GeIL 512MB PC3200 Value CAS2.5 (GE5123200B) (MY-003-GL)

£35 (OCuK) - NEC ND2510A Dual Layer 8x DVD±RW ReWriter (Black) - OEM (CD-008-NE)
OR
£15 (OCuK) - Samsung TS-H292AWBCH 52x/52x/32x CD-ReWriter (Black) - OEM (CD-014-SA)

£60 (OCuK) - Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160GB 6Y160MO SATA 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-026-MD)

Which comes to either £369 - P&P or £349 depending on whether you need the DVD-RW or not.

And also, that's some top gear there.

And remember, you're getting a motherboard as well as better components than your original "Big Mama".

(Plus it's my setup, nearly. I would buy the CD-RW and the HDD, but I have no money after buying a second P4 3.2 GHz and an IC7-G.

Umm, sorry if it's not too much help, I don't er... Have too much experience, I've only built a PC twice, however I've just done my second build, with a similiarly tight budget.

Mind you, I saved £120 on the card, using my old Radeon 9600XT, and buffed up my RAM to 1GB.

Creppy, have you thought about Shuttle PC's? My 2.8P4 with 512Mb RAM runs All the latest games, could be just what you need. And the Mobo is included in the case.

Check out Kustompcs.co.uk. The guy there, Graeme, is really helpful and got me the best for my money.

They're not beasts, but they run everything you need.
