So heres the deal, i'm running an Amd Athlon Xp 2600+ on a AsRock K7S8X mobo (just updated bios to the latest v2.60).

Problem is that the 2600 is only running at 1.92ghz, when it is capable of more.
I already posted this in the PC Gaming forum and got some great advice, but Damarus suggested I should post it here as there are more people with the technical know-how to help me resolve this situation.

From Damarus's advice, it looks like I'm going to have to alter the FSB and Multiplier settings via jumpers on the board.

Oh yeah, and the mobo did not come with spare jumpers so if someone could also reccomend a site to order some from I'd be very greatful.

Thanks in advance for any help.

(BTW: Is the Cpu Host Frequency in the bios the FSB setting?)

I guess the host frequency must be the FSB. It was at 166, I increased it to 170 and the CPU is now running at 1.95ghz.
So increasing it to 174 should get me to 2ghz as I think the multiplier is 11.5.

What I would like to know is, what is better:
A lower FSB and a higher multiplier, or a higher FSB and a lower multiplier.

And dosnt the multiplier effect other things such as ram? So should I try and find a balance between the two?

[Edit: Ok I've got it to 2ghz. A fan inside my computer began whirring a lot louder than normal on startup. Apart from that the system seems stable. Is this normal when you increase the speed of a CPU?)
