I'm after a new mobile phone for Christmas (though I'm agnostic I still give and receive gifts, though usually whilst not celebrating the birth of some long-dead bloke).

I'm not particularly l337 when it comes to knowing which phones are "hip", I just generally use my phone for texting, calls, wap a bit and thats about it. A camera would be nice and I like the radio feature I have on my phone, however my old faithful Nokia 8310 is on its last legs. It turns itself off a lot, the battery life is terrible and it's a bit scratched up too. I'm therefore looking for something a bit nicer, but not all that fancy.

So I turn to you to offer me some suggestions for a new mobile. It should be simpleish to use and preferably not have small buttons, because I have big caveman thumbs and end up pressing multiple buttons if they're too small.

Help me out please.

Post phone models, links and recommendations here.

Thanks a lot.

They're alright, some of my friends have them. The camera is awful though isn't it.

Absolutely it is.

Did I ever deny being a computer geek?

Stuff like this ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=30389&item=6337739318&rd=1 ) I can't understand.

They're gonna pay £165 for the phone, plus £8 P&P meaning they've paid £173 for just the phone.

I'll end up paying £228 this year for my phone, and that gives me 50 mins free anytime a month and 500 texts a month.

So for £55 extra I get up to £600 worth of texts and £240 worth of calls!

It's gone up, make that for £44.45 extra!

And typing "n00bs" isn't the least bit geeky?

But the camera is balls.

Go for the Nokia 7610, Sony Ericsson S700i/K700i or Motorola V500/600.

The latest Samsungs are not bad either, but they don't last very long.

I would suggest a Nokia 7250i.

Relatively recently they had a price cut (right after i bought my phone... ARGHHHRGHGHRGHRG!) on it, so it's about £80-90ish I think.

Brilliant phone and got the features you want.

Look at 02's cheap contract phones.

For £19 a month I get 500 texts and 50 minutes anytime, plus I get a cool free phone too.

Far better than me buying a new phone for £150 and then having to pay for calls and texts on top of that.

I'm getting a V80 too.

P.S I've just searched Google for all the pics named V80 without the safesearch on. I got a nice surprise! She's not too bad either, well as dirty porno schlaaaaags go...

If you want a decent camera go for Nokia or Motorola.

I've got an Ericsson Z600 which is groovy ... apart from the camera.
