This confises me since differenct mags tend to place different systems at different levels...
Are N64, PSX last gen of this gen?
What gen is the Dreamcast? Is it last gen, or was that the saturn, is it this gen did it lose out before this gen arrived? or is it a cross gen?
If the PS2 is a next gen consoles, how come its been avalible since last year?
And, since the PS2 has been avalible since last year, does this mean GC and X-Box are unreleased this gen systems?
Or has the old systems of classing systems into their generational system spec releases been outmoded since diferent manufactures now work more to thier own time frame than those of others...
Have the console wars become extinct, not because of pacifism and global gameplayer respect because systems come out so far apart they dont compete in the same way ( e.g. as the SNES and Megadrive did?)
Are the multinationals now working to the beat of their own drums, and not that of the gaming community?
PS2 sales compete more with those of the PS1 than of any other console?
Since casual gamers define the sales of the console market. Do machines really compete on the business level, in advertising and product placement over system spec and gamer quality?
Which gen is your gen?
Have the console wars been replaced by the marketing wars?
My favourite is the current gen, the DC is an amazing console!
BTW i dont want to start a console war by saying that!
Also, which gen is your gen?
ie which generation of consoles where you first introduced to, and which do you consider to be your favourite?
Personally I'm looking forward, and the next gen will always be a favourite.
Maybe tomorrow I'll wannna settle down, but until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.
When console first came out, there was really only Sega and Nintendo. The both released 8 bit machines, NES and Master System.
Then the second generation of consoles came along, the 16 bit ones, SNES and MegaDrive.
Now, here is it where it all starts to go a bit strange.
After the SNES and MegaDrive, there was a 64bit machine released, the Atari Jaguar, it didnt really take off.
Then there were a couple of 32 bit machines, the Amiga CD-32 and the Playstation. These, technically, are 3rd generation machines.
There was then another 64bit machine released, N64. This was a fourth generation machine.
Now we are into the fifth generation, 128nit. This gen encapsulates the DC, PS2 and the X-Box.
Sorted.

How can you have an inter-generation console?
How can a mcahine that been avalible since the beginning of last autumn STILL be next gen? - especially given that the machine will have been avalible for almost two years before it hits out shores?
Since the DC was avalible through the N64 PSX lif cycle of consoles, why is it inter generation and not last gen?
Isnt this just the computer press trying to create non-existant catagories, havnt the companies movied away from this sort of thing towards having independant, non-existant ...
that sort of thing...
its all in the first discussion post...
PS Saturn N64 - One generation
PS2 GC X-box (and kind of the DC though that was an inter-gen) - Second generation.
Its as simple as that. I don`t see what you`re getting at in anyway.

But which consoles are in which generation?
How can a machine that been out for nearly a year be considered next gen... and given the technical superiority of the GC and X-Box, should the PS2 be current gen and the GC, X-Box be considered next gen?
Or is the the whole generations system not defunct, out of date and useless?
The PS2 is still regarded next gen, desite already existing in the present gen, simply because it is in the band including next gen consoles which aren`t released yet.
> Console wars? What are they?
Its this idea I've had for a discussion topic... I dont think anyones thought of it before?
Although I could be wrong, I think it might be a totally original idea?
