Erm, a 'private joke' is a joke that only the people 'in-the-know' understand...

If I made a 'private joke' in a large group of people in a public place like a café, it doesn't mean it's a joke for everyone who hears it and it doesn't mean everyone will understand it, but that's still continuing it in a public place.

The others didn't understand the joke because it was private in the sense that only cookie, Azul and a few others know the information behind it that makes it a joke.

You're the one who seems a little...slow.
