To be honest I hadn't heard of him until he let one of the guys from the Bonkers CDs (Happy Hardcore) do a ½hour stint on his show and then the night after they were given a 2 hour slot because of John Peel. There is also a song named after him called "John Peel is not enough" which was released last year.

i was never a real fan of John Peel. His death did shock me somewhat. As he has done so much for the music industry. However when me and my parents were going out early yesterday morning. Chris Moyles on Radio one.. was talking about his memories of John Peel. I think all three of us were moved.
It was a nice touch that radio one were playing some od John Peel's favourite music

It surprised me how much it actually bothered me. When he was alive, I loved pretty much everything he did, but I wasn't an avid follower. But now he's gone I get that feeling a key part of our and the previous music generation (depending on how ancient you are) has been lost.

A guy that even though you didn't personally know him, you felt you did.

Same here - never heard his radio show, just his spots at Glastonbury on TV recently. Seemed like a groovy guy though.

If I'm being frightfully honest, I think I only ever listened to his radio show a handful of times, and most times I turned it off after a few short minutes. But obviously that's not what matters - Peel was a legend, a man without whom several of the biggest acts in the world today would be nothing. I can't really add any more to what's already been said.

I'm looking forward to hear Radio 1 today to hear all the other DJs eulogise about a proper DJ. Oh, and they're renaming the New Bands Stage at Glastonbury to the John Peel Stage, quite a fitting tribute I think.

Sure, but your "complte toss" could be my "best stuff I've ever heard".
It was a difference from (although a completely different audience) the same old, same old played every morning on the breakfast show. :D
