Thhiiiis film is sticking much closer to the book, giving perhaps a more closer representation of Roald Dahl's imagining of the whole affair. The musical film, which is fantastic, shouldn't be compared with the new one, but it will be, because people are generally idiots and can't possibly use their imagination. Huff.

Everyone will keep calling it a remake even though it isn't :( It is a new and more faithful adaptation of the book. They will complain if there isn't a song every five minutes (was the book a musical?...No...) I will never be judged on it's own merits sadly.

I remember reading a few years ago that the Dahl estate were unhappy with the Gene Wilder Wonka...they said it wasn't dark enough!!!

I have a feeling Depp will suck in his role as Wonka.

Dahl has never been happy with ANY film version of his books. I haven't seen Matilda properly, but I guess he wouldn't have liked that either if he'd still been around to see it.

Seriously though, when was the last time Depp sucked in a role?

It's a Tim Burton film for god sakes, it's going to be godly whatever you simpletons think.

Planet of the Apes never needed a remake though and was never really Tim Burtons style.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the otherhand is right up Burtons cornchute.

Indeed, I'm looking forward to it.

What was Big Fish like?

Wonderful!

Probably my favourite Burton actually, definetly one of the best films I've seen this year.

Is there no film of The Great Glass Elevator?

I don't remember much of the book, except there were scary space monsters.
